Assignment 2 -

Research the Sri Lankan Separatist Conflict. Analyse the origins of the insurgency through the given web-sites above. Find out the historical cause of the conflicts between the Sinhalese and the Tamils in Sri Lanka. This is the first modern conflict that introduced the use of women as suicide bombers.

Present your main findings to the class (you decide on the timing!) Here are the questions that you need to touch on for your presentation:

1. Provide a summary of the Sri Lankan Separatist conflict. It may be useful to include things such as historical time lines, a profile of the main players in the conflict and its impact on the country.
2. Using what you had learnt from your group's research, present the KEY reasons that led to the conflict becoming full-blown.
3. What do you think were the most important reason OTHER THAN RACE in this conflict.
4. What were your group's thoughts/opinions after having done this research. You can also comment on any thing/point that you had unearth that you can link to your understanding of our society here in Singapore.
